The Fall 2025 Recreation Program is off to an amazing start for Suffern FC! Over the past two weeks, more than 70 young players have filled the Sloatsburg Community Fields with energy, laughter, and excitement.
Founder Yan Garcia Hillburn said, “As one of the fastest-growing options for youth soccer in Sloatsburg and Rockland County, our club is giving kids the chance to build skills, make friends, and enjoy the game in a positive, welcoming environment.”

A Strong Start to the Season
Our opening sessions on September 13 and 20 brought together families from across Suffern, Hillburn, Sloatsburg, and surrounding towns. Trainers welcomed both new and returning players, creating an environment that is fun, structured, and welcoming.
“Soccer is about confidence and joy at this age,” explained Director Yan Garcia. “We want every child to leave the field smiling, knowing they belong here.”
Parents have already shared positive feedback about the energy, organization, and developmental focus that sets Suffern FC apart.
Age-Appropriate Soccer Development
One of the hallmarks of Suffern FC is age-specific programming:
- Pre-K & Kindergarten (Ages 3–5): Players focus on fun games, balance, and coordination while getting comfortable with the ball.
- 1st–3rd Grade: Children begin learning dribbling with both feet, making short passes, and working as a team.
- 4th–6th Grade: Older players are introduced to more advanced turns, moves, and small-sided scrimmages to prepare for middle school soccer.
This approach ensures every player has the right mix of fun and challenge.
Building Community Through Soccer
Suffern FC is more than just a soccer club—it’s a community. Parents gather on the sidelines, siblings play nearby, and friendships form both on and off the field. For Coach Garcia, these moments are just as valuable as the soccer skills being taught.
“Soccer is the tool,” said Yan Garcia of Hillburn. “But the real goal is belonging, helping kids and families feel connected.”
Looking Ahead
With six more weeks in the Fall 2025 Recreation Program, families can look forward to skill challenges, creative drills, and scrimmages that give players a chance to apply what they’ve learned. Weekly updates will continue to showcase highlights from the season.
